Brenden Aaronson will find out today whether he has made the United States’ World Cup squad, while expressing sympathy for Leeds United team-mates Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Anton Stach.

According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, the attacker is expected to be included when the USMNT confirm their list later today. The 25-year-old has 57 caps and nine goals, and played in four matches at the 2022 finals.

He featured in international windows in October, November and March, and his name appeared in a reportedly leaked squad list. If selected, he would join Switzerland’s Noak Okafor and Sweden’s Gabi Gudmundsson as Leeds representatives at the tournament.

Calvert-Lewin, who scored 14 goals and led the line as a targetman, and Stach, who created a huge number of chances and added five goals, both missed out for England and Germany respectively.

Aaronson said he was devastated for the pair and felt both deserved to go, adding that they could use the setback as fuel for next season. He also said that a home World Cup would be a dream for him and his family if he is picked.
