Bruno Fernandes heroics go to waste as United stumble to Bournemouth draw | OneFootball

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes delivered another fine performance, but it was not enough as the team was held to a 2-2 draw by Bournemouth.

United headed into the Bournemouth game with a lot of confidence, having beaten Aston Villa 3-1 last weekend.

The Red Devils were buoyed even more when Fernandes gave them the lead at the hour mark from the spot-kick. Matheus Cunha executed a fine piece of skill to beat Jimenez and come inside, only to be brought down by the Bournemouth man inside the box.

Fernandes made no mistake as he sent Djordje Petrovic the wrong way. But United’s advantage didn’t last for too long. Christie restored parity, albeit under controversial circumstances.

Amad believed he was due a penalty after being hauled down inside the box, but the referee waved away the appeals. Just 25 seconds later, the ball found its way into Senne Lammens’ goal.

Fernandes was at it again, delivering an exquisite corner-kick delivery that James Hill turned into the back of his own net.

With United in the driving seat again, Harry Maguire’s moment of madness gave Bournemouth a route back into the game. The United defender was shown a straight red card for a reckless last-man challenge on Evanilson inside the box. Bournemouth were also awarded a penalty, which substitute Eli Junior Kroupi converted.

Both sides had to settle for a share of the points after another dramatic draw.

Fernandes’ performance

Fernandes has now been directly involved in 11 goals in his last 10 appearances – three goals and eight assists.

The Portuguese playmaker completed 52 of the passes he attempted.  Three of these were key passes.

He put in 10 crosses and attempted six shots, one of which of course ended up in goal. Three of his shots were on target.

He contributed five recoveries and two tackles.

United now face a 24-day break before returning to action on April 13, when they host arch-rivals Leeds United at Old Trafford.
