Whilst AS Monaco gratefully welcomed players back to the fold this week, there is a new absentee that Sébastien Pocognoli must now contend with.
There was a boost for Pocognoli, who could count on the likes of Aleksandr Golovin, Aladji Bamba, and Christian Mawissa during Wednesday’s 0-0 draw against Tottenham Hotspur. The return of Mawissa was a particular boost, given the lack of depth at centre-back, which sees the Principality club consider the recruitment of a “joker” defender.
But Mawissa may now have more minutes than he would perhaps have expected upon his return. Rather than being eased back in, he may now start against Toulouse FC on Saturday after Caio Henrique, who has started at LCB in Pocognoli’s first two games in charge, suffered a minor foot injury. Pocognoli revealed that it was an inflammation issue, and so no risk will be taken. It is hoped that he will return next week.
Denis Zakaria, Vanderson, Lamine Camara, Lukas Hradecky, Eric Dier, and Paul Pogba all remain sidelined, with Pocognoli hypothesising that La Pioche’s return may not come before the international break in November.
