Egypt suffered a defeat to Senegal on Wednesday evening in the semi-finals of CAN 2025 (1-0). The Pharaohs' head coach, Hossam Hassan, is struggling to come to terms with this elimination.
Yesterday, Egypt's exit in the CAN 2025 semi-finals against Senegal (0-1) sparked fierce protest from the Pharaohs. In front of the press, head coach Hossam Hassan denounced the treatment of his team, citing the schedule, travel, and refereeing decisions.
"What happened to our national team is not fair. Playing just two days after the match against Ivory Coast, on top of arriving straight from a trip, while Senegal had three days of rest and played in the same city where they've stayed the entire tournament." said the Egyptian coach.
Hassan also stressed the logistical conditions: "Look at how many days they had to rest. Imagine, they didn't even have to change beds or hotels, unlike my players who came back from a trip and had to change everything."
The Egyptian coach also took aim at the officiating: "We didn't get enough stoppage time to try to equalize. I don't understand why we were treated like this, especially with ten substitutions in this match," continued the former striker. "There were a lot of mistakes from the referee. FIFA must step in to ensure fairness in major tournaments like the Africa Cup of Nations."
