After picking up wins against Bayer Leverkusen at the Allianz Arena and away at RB Leipzig, FC Bayern Women now host Carl Zeiss Jena on opening day of Oktoberfest. Kick-off at the FC Bayern Campus on Saturday is at 2pm CEST. Here’s all you need to know in our preview.
Lena Oberdorf’s brace helped Bayern on their way to a 3-0 victory in Leipzig last week and maintained the double winners’ perfect start to their title defence, after opening with a 2-0 win at home to Leverkusen in front of a crowd of 57,762. With six points, five goals scored and none conceded, the defending champions top the table alongside Hoffenheim. The Munich Frauen are now on a 15-game winning run in the league going back to last November. That streak began with a 5-0 victory over Jena.
📽️ Watch highlights from the Leipzig win:
Jena managed two 4-0 wins over Hamburg and Hertha Berlin in pre-season but also lost three and drew one of their friendly matches. They faced a tough start to the Bundesliga campaign with Hoffenheim and Wolfsburg but still managed to score in both games despite defeat.
Bayern and Jena have met 26 times in the Bundesliga, with FCB unbeaten (W22, D4) – a record against a particular opponent.
Head coach José Barcala remains without Barbara Dunst (recovery after cruciate ligament) and Magdelena Eriksson (knee issues). However, captain Glódis Viggósdóttir and Giulia Gwinn are available again for Saturday.
Giulia Gwinn could return to the matchday squad against Jena.
José Barcala: “There are no easy games in the Bundesliga. We expect an opponent in Jena who defend very well. We need to play with discipline and coordination, be clinical in the final third. Our goal is to perform to our best with high intensity and win the game.”
Alara Şehitler: “We’re expecting a tough game. Jena will be very solid defensively and try to keep everything out. We need to make sure we don’t get hit on the counter. Our goal is to be active in the final third against a team that will likely sit deep. We’ve trained well. Now it’s about doing it in the match.”
