Fabio Capello, former Roma coach and current Sky commentator, gave an interview to La Gazzetta dello Sport and spoke about the Giallorossi’s upcoming match against Inter.
“Each coach interprets pressure in their own way. Gasperini applies it across the pitch; his “man-on-man” approach is a recognized trademark that has allowed him to reach the top with Atalanta and, now, with Roma.”
“Chivu takes a similar approach, but less aggressively, so to speak: high pressing and counter-pressing allow his Inter team to create superiority in attack as soon as they win the ball back, but the team takes fewer risks in defence. Roma, on the other hand, accepts the risk, but the Giallorossi’s defensive solidity minimizes it. More than just their playing style, however, I find that Gasp and Chivu are similar in another respect…”
“Roma? It’s a team that follows its coach and does everything on the pitch to apply Gasperini’s playing principles. I’m convinced that time will help the team become more effective in scoring, even if neither Dovbyk nor Ferguson seem like top players up front.”
“But Gasperini is a master at exploiting the potential of his players. And then there are players like Dybala and Soulé, of whom I’ve been a fan since day one: he has qualities like few others in Serie A, and then vision, shooting, unpredictability… And he’s young, the future is on his side.”
“I believe the Giallorossi should aim to return to the Champions League. The season will be long and demanding, especially because of the Europa League. But Gasperini, at Atalanta, has shown he can handle both sides: he’ll confirm that in Rome too.”
