The Court of Arbitration for Sport has rejected Santos’ appeal in the Jean Lucas transfer case, leaving the club liable to pay €2,032,876.71, about R$ 12.1 million, to Monaco over the 2023 deal.

According to Diario Do Peixe, Santos agreed a US$ 6 million fee in July 2023 and paid the first two instalments, in August that year and in June 2024, but failed to settle the third and final payment, which fell due in January last year. The board sought to reschedule the amount, but the French side refused.

FIFA ruled against Santos in May 2025 after Monaco filed the case. CAS then upheld that ruling. The decision was issued on 22 May. The club have 45 days from notification to pay, with a transfer ban if the debt is not cleared by 6 July.

Jean Lucas now plays for Bahia after being sold by Santos in January 2024. He did not complete six months at the club and was among the players associated with the 2023 Brasileirão relegation. He registered three assists in 22 appearances.

Born in Rio de Janeiro, the 27-year-old came through Flamengo, making his senior debut in 2018. He joined Santos on loan in 2019 under Jorge Sampaoli, playing 20 times as part of the deal that took Bruno Henrique to Flamengo. He later moved to Lyon for €8 million, had a stint at Brest, then signed for Monaco before returning to Santos.
