While Ruben Amorim had made it clear that he needed midfield reinforcements in the summer, Manchester United decided to focus on strengthening the attack instead.

In came Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and Benjamin Sesko, but despite the head coach’s pleas, Carlos Baleba did not arrive due to his humongous valuation.

A desperate deadline day attempt to sign Conor Gallagher on loan from Atletico Madrid was mounted, but that also failed to materialise.

As a result, the Portuguese tactician has had to start the season with Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes in the middle of the park. Both have a fantastic passing range, but they have left a lot of space for the opposition to exploit.

Midfield reinforcements needed

The Brazilian was expected to be sold when Amorim stepped in through the doors, but his professionalism on and off the pitch ultimately forced the head coach to change his views.

His current deal is valid until next year, with the Red Devils having the option of triggering a one-year extension. But given his mega wages, INEOS will prefer not to award him a new deal.

Instead, Sir Jim Ratcliffe will look to move him on, and as per Foot Italia, a departure in January cannot be discounted as the co-owners look to raise a bit of money through his sale instead of allowing him to leave as a free agent.

Saudi Pro League sides are circling, but keeping next year’s World Cup in mind, the five-time Champions League winner might look to stay in Europe.

INEOS open to Casemiro sale

Fiorentina are prepared to pounce, but Casemiro will have to agree to take a massive pay cut in order to reunite with former United legend David de Gea at the Artemio Franchi Stadium.

“Although Casemiro is an important member of Ruben Amorim’s squad, United are reportedly looking to offload the Brazilian before his deal comes to a close.

“One major factor is Casemiro’s salary, as the 33-year-old is reportedly earning over €400,000 per week and is the highest paid player at the club.

“The former Real Madrid midfielder was heavily linked with a move to Saudi Arabia during the 2024 and 2025 summer transfer window, but a deal failed to materialize.

“Other clubs have also shown interest in the five-time Champions League winner, but a new option has entered the fray as Fiorentina are reportedly considering a move for the Brazil star.

Fiorentina eyeing sensational move

“La Viola have struck gold by signing a player deemed to be struggling at Manchester United in David de Gea and the Spaniard could play a huge role in convincing his former teammate to move to Italy.

“Casemiro would need to take a considerable pay-cut if he were to join the Serie A side, as Moise Kean is reportedly the highest paid player in Florence – earning €110,000 per week.

The former Real Madrid superstar has a current market value of €10 million and only time will tell whether the Serie A side can afford to pay a significant transfer fee and his huge wages.

Amorim will fall short of options should the Brazilian depart, so INEOS will either need to recruit a quality replacement or risk a possible showdown with the head coach.
