Fer Lopez’s loan return to Celta Vigo has revived a stuttering first season at Wolves, and the La Liga club have signalled a desire to keep the £19m winger.
“From our perspective, it’s up to us to make every possible effort. To try and find those options, get creative, and explore possibilities until the summer is over.” Celta Vigo sporting director Marco Garces was speaking to DAZN.
Lopez arrived from Celta Vigo last summer for £19m but managed only 12 appearances for Wolves, including two Premier League starts and two in the EFL Cup. A late January deal then took him back on loan to his former club.
Back in Spain, he scored a memorable outside-of-the-foot strike in the Europa League and has featured 20 times, scoring twice. His form has aided their push, securing a place in next season’s Conference League and keeping a Europa League tilt alive.
With Wolves preparing a summer clear-out as they rebuild for life in the Championship, Lopez’s future could lie away from Molineux. He signed a five-year contract on arrival, with four years still to run.
