The final day of the UEFA Champions League league phase is upon us and all six Premier League teams could be heading straight into the last-16.

24 of the 32 participants in this year’s competition will qualify for the knockout stage, with the top eight avoiding the play-off round.

None of the English sides can finish below 24th, meaning they cannot be eliminated from Europe this Wednesday. The only question is: how many of them will finish eighth or higher?

Champions League: What every Premier League team needs to do on final day of the league phase

Arsenal

Whatever the outcome of their encounter with Kairat Almaty, Arsenal have sealed a top eight finish. They sit top of the Champions League table as the only side with a 100 per cent record.

The Gunners are virtually guaranteed to finish first; only Bayern Munich can overtake them if they beat PSV, Arsenal lose to Kairat, and there’s a five-goal swing in goal difference.

Chelsea

The Blues are eighth on 13 points. Victory at Napoli should seal progression to the last-16, although they could still miss out on goal difference. Anything less than a win and they will most likely drop into the play-offs.

Liverpool

A draw against Qarabag may be enough for Liverpool, who sit fourth on 15 points, although victory would guarantee top eight.

Man City

One of eight sides on 13 points, Manchester City face an uphill battle to finish in the top eight. Beating Galatasaray at home may not be enough; they need to improve their goal difference a fair bit and hope they get favours elsewhere. It’s possible but not probable.

Newcastle United

Newcastle are seventh on 13 points and will take on Paris Saint-Germain, who are sixth on the same number of points. This could well be a winner-takes-all battle at the Parc des Princes; a draw would not necessarily guarantee a top eight spot.

Spurs

Tottenham Hotspur are fifth on 14 points and will make it through to the round of 16 with a win at Eintracht Frankfurt. A draw could be enough depending on results elsewhere.
