Striker starred on loan in EFL last term

Chelsea have confirmed the sale of striker Jimmy-Jay Morgan to West Brom.

Standard Sport understands that the 20-year-old departs Stamford Bridge permanently in a deal worth around £4million.

Chelsea retain a sizeable sell-on clause as they believe he will do well in the Championship.

A club statement read: “Jimmy-Jay Morgan has completed a permanent move to West Bromwich Albion.

“After impressing for our Under-18s and Under-21s, he spent the second half of the 2024/25 season on loan at League Two Gillingham, where he scored twice in 16 outings.

It added: “Everybody at Chelsea wishes Jimmy-Jay the best of luck as he embarks on a new chapter in his career.”

The England youth international moved to Stamford Bridge from Southampton for £3m as a 17-year-old in February 2023.

Morgan enjoyed an excellent season on loan at League One side Peterborough United last season, scoring 14 goals in all competitions and is set to become the Baggies’ first signing of the summer transfer window.

Morgan is set to become the latest academy player to leave the Blues’ youth setup after the club announced that Brodi Hughes, Richard Olise, Sam Rak-Sakyi and Jimi Tauriainen would all depart following the expiry of their contracts on June 30.

He would be the Blues’ second sale of the summer transfer window after a deal was struck with Real Madrid for Marc Cucurella to return to Spain.

West Brom finished four points above the Championship relegation zone last season after former player-turned-manager James Morrison guided them to a 10-game unbeaten run, which included four wins, six draws and seven clean sheets.

Morrison was initially brought in as an interim head coach, but was subsequently handed the job permanently at the end of the season.
