Chelsea face doubts over Joao Pedro, Reece James and Levi Colwill before the final-day visit to Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.
According to Sunderland Echo, interim boss Calum McFarlane says Pedro's status is wait-and-see after the £60m forward missed Tuesday night's 2-1 win over Tottenham with a minor knock.
Club captain James was among the substitutes and Colwill omitted entirely as Chelsea manage their returns from injury, with McFarlane citing the quick turnaround from the Manchester City game and the recent cup final as reasons not to risk them. Pedro joined from Brighton last summer.
Chelsea travel to Wearside knowing a win would seal European football, potentially the Europa League. McFarlane added that involvement for the trio should become clearer in the next couple of days, and the club are hopeful without certainty.
The picture also shapes Sunderland's task. Régis Le Bris' side must beat Chelsea to keep their European hopes alive, then rely on Brentford dropping points at Liverpool or Brighton losing to Manchester United. There is also a route to the Europa League if other results favour the Wearsiders.
