Argentine threw his future at Stamford Bridge into doubt
Liam Rosenior has spoken with Enzo Fernandez after vague comments about his future fuelled rumours he could leave Chelsea in the summer.
Rosenior says he spoke with the Argentinean World Cup winner on Thursday morning following Fernandez’s controversial comments after Tuesday’s 3-0 defeat at home to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.
Fernandez had been asked by ESPN Argentina whether he could guarantee he would be at Chelsea next season following their exit from the competition.
He replied: “I don’t know. There are eight games left and then the FA Cup. Then there's the World Cup, and then we’ll see.”
Those quotes led to suggestions that the 25-year-old could be thinking about departing Chelsea. He has previously been tenuously linked with Real Madrid and PSG.
“I had a great conversation with Enzo at length this morning before training, not just about his comments, just how he was feeling, how as a team we can improve,” Rosenior said.
“He's one of the captains of the club. What I would say is that he made it really, really clear to me how happy he is here at this club, how much he wants to win, how passionate he is for us to be successful.
“And he also said that in translation and in emotion, things get misconstrued in what he said.”
Fernandez gave the interview in Spanish, which is his first language.
Rosenior added: “For me, he's fully committed to this group, he's fully committed to winning here at this football club.”
