Chelsea boss Liam Rosenior revealed that Jamie Gittens has suffered another injury after the youngster missed Saturday’s win over Port Vale.
The Blues eased past the League One outfit at Stamford Bridge, winning 7-0 to advance to the semi-finals of the FA Cup.
Rosenior had suggested Gittens might return from a hamstring injury to play against Port Vale, with the winger having been out since 31st January.
But the 21-year-old was left out of the matchday squad after potentially injuring his hamstring again in training.
“I did my press conference before training [on Friday],” Rosenior said after the final whistle. “Unfortunately in training Jamie picked up what looks like a hamstring injury again.
“We have to scan him and make sure. It’s a real shame for him. I think it’s the third time it’s happened. We need to help him and make sure he’s okay. I can’t give you a time frame on that at the moment.”
The win was a much needed boost for Chelsea, who had lost four consecutive matches in all competitions prior to Saturday.
“Every manager will tell you the final whistle is when the relief is there!
“It’s been a really important week, the international break in terms of myself, the staff and the club. Obviously the players went away.
“When you go through a difficult moment like we did in that 10-day period, you come out of it and once you analyse it and you come back stronger and know what you want to fix…
“I’ve got a group of players who still believe, as I do, we can have an outstanding season in terms of winning the FA Cup and qualifying for the Champions League.”
