xG is basically a measure of shots – the average number of goals you’d expect a player to score from shots from those positions.

A look at the Premier League’s leaders after 11 games reads like a list of the league’s most dangerous players. According to WhoScored, Erling Haaland is top, averaging almost 1 xG per game. Bournemouth sensation Junior Kroupi is next. Also on the list are in form players like Jean-Philippe Mateta, Igor Thiago and Nick Woltemade.

Chelsea’s top man in this category is Estevao, 9th on the list and averaging 0.47 non penalty xG per 90 minutes in his 341 minutes of Premier League action so far. Next on the list is Enzo Fernandez, way down in 29th.

What Chelsea would love to see in the next couple of month is Pedro Neto, Liam Delap, Alejandro Garnacho and Joao Pedro all raise their output. They’re now established as the starting attackers, and need to produce results to justify that.

Of course Estevao has it easier than them, coming into games later on when things are more open, but still, he shouldn’t be doubling Joao Pedro’s output, for example. The others are managing even less, despite all getting a boost over the weekend.

Let’s hope this international period brings a chance to work on that attacking group and get them really well drilled for a Christmas period where we will needs goals throughout the team.

In terms of interesting stats, we also looked at Chelsea’s top rated players in the whole league. There’s a striker, a defender and a midfielder in there.

It wasn’t all good news for Chelsea – several players have question marks over their fitness after the game last night, and Enzo Maresca gave an update on all of them.
