León simply didn’t show up at Estadio AKRON. Guadalajara delivered a footballing masterclass and completely wiped out their opponent on Wednesday night at the Rojiblanca Fortress, thrashing León 5–0 in the rescheduled Matchday 9 clash of the Clausura 2026. The victory brought a huge reward for Gabriel Milito’s team, as they reclaimed sole possession of the overall league lead with 27 points.

The full 90 minutes were a total siege by the Guadalajara side, who never stopped creating scoring chances until their outstanding performance was reflected on the scoreboard. The result also extended their unbeaten run at the “Home of the Mexicans” to 10 matches, with 9 wins and just 1 draw.

The most popular and beloved team in Mexico secured the three points through constant movement, fluid combinations, and a style of football that has captured the attention of the entire Liga MX. It also confirmed that the squad is deep and full of quality, capable of responding in any match situation.

Now the Rebaño Sagrado must switch focus to their next test, as in three days they will look to replicate what they did tonight when they visit Monterrey at the “Gigante de Acero,” in the Matchday 12 game of the Clausura 2026.

Goals

- What a golazo, Brian! In the 35th minute, after a hard-fought play to the very end, the ball reached Brian Gutiérrez at the edge of the box, and without hesitation he struck it with the inside of his right foot, sending it into the top corner.

- What a delicate touch! In the 46th minute, right after the restart, came a set-piece play: from a corner kick, Santiago Sandoval arrived from the second line, received the ball and, amid a sea of legs, delicately brushed it with his left foot to place it softly into the left upper corner of the net.

- Clinical finish by “Hormi”! In the 65th minute, Armando González converted a penalty awarded after a foul on Bryan González, sending an unstoppable cross-shot into the net.

- “Sepu” made it a rout! In the 90th minute, a shot by “Dani” Aguirre that bounced off the post fell perfectly for Ángel Sepúlveda, who, in front of an empty goal, calmly slotted it home.

- Hugo closed the scoring! In stoppage time, Camberos appeared unmarked inside the box, controlled a cross with his chest that had traveled across the entire area, and finished coolly past García despite a last-ditch attempt by the defense to block the shot.

Dangerous chances

- 7’ – A cross from “Cotorro” found Sandoval at the far post; he received it facing the goal and shot, but the goalkeeper’s quick reaction prevented the goal.

- On the following play, Efraín Álvarez appeared alone in the box to control and shoot, but once again the keeper’s quick advance denied him.

- “Hormiga” had it! In the 11th minute, he got behind his marker and went one-on-one with the goalkeeper; he tried to place the ball across goal, but a saving leg sent it out for a corner.

- 40’ – “Cotorro” was already celebrating the second goal when he appeared completely alone at the far post, ready to tap it in, but the goalkeeper’s dive pushed it out for a corner.

- 48’ – “Efra” sprinted down the left, faced the goalkeeper and tried to beat him low, but a leg deflected it out for a corner.

- 51’ – Once again Álvarez on the left saw “Hormiga’s” run and played it across for him to tap in, but García’s quick exit disrupted the finish.

- 78’ – Ricardo Marín went through on goal, faced the keeper one-on-one and shot across goal, but the goalkeeper stretched his leg to deny him.

- 86’ – Marín had another chance with a diagonal run into the box, striking with his left foot in the six-yard area, but the goalkeeper’s positioning allowed him to make the save.
