Former Inter captain Beppe Bergomi believes the measured, intelligent approach of Cristian Chivu is already paying dividends at Inter and is impressed by the maturity of Francesco Pio Esposito.
Speaking to TMW, via FCInterNews, the club legend said that the Romanian coach has made his mark without trying to reinvent the wheel.
“The intelligence of a coach is also knowing when not to change too much,” Bergomi explained.
Furthermore, adding that Chivu’s restraint has helped maintain Inter’s structure and confidence.
He pointed to the summer’s transfer business as a sign of continuity rather than revolution, praising the addition of Manuel Akanji.
“Inter made five Under-23 signings plus Akanji, and that’s been the upgrade compared to Pavard.
“You can see how calm he is on the pitch – he gives balance and allows the defensive line to stay higher.”

Bergomi also hinted that the Curva Nord will return to San Siro for the upcoming clash with Fiorentina.
“For what I know, the fans will be back to support the team,” he revealed, suggesting a renewed unity around Chivu’s project.
The 60-year-old praised the coach’s tactical evolution, particularly his decision to introduce a higher press and long-term development focus.
“Chivu is adding something of his own – nothing revolutionary, but useful things,” Bergomi said.
“He’s working more for the long term, getting into the players’ heads. He’s credible and has to motivate the squad to keep playing good football.”
Bergomi also reserved warm words for Francesco Pio Esposito, whose progress continues to impress.
“He’s not unmarkable – nobody is – but he’s mature, celebrates modestly, works for his teammates and fights for every ball.
“Inside the box, he always sees the goal. There’s real quality in this kid.”
For Bergomi, balance, belief and youth define the early Chivu era – and the signs are pointing firmly upward.
