Lazio president Claudio Lotito is determined to maintain Nuno Tavares despite the ever-growing interest in his services.
The Italian capital club signed the 24-year-old from Arsenal last summer on loan with an obligation to buy at the end of the season. The Portuguese has swiftly announced himself as one of the best revelations of the Serie A campaign. He’s currently leading the assists charts in Serie A, creating seven goals in as many appearances.
Therefore, the Biancocelesti will be keen to keep the left-back on a permanent basis. And with a buy clause worth circa €9 million, this will be an absolute bargain for Lazio. The club would be able to make a hefty windfall by selling him next summer. Nevertheless, Lotito doesn’t intend to relinquish the services of his rising star.
According to Il Messaggero (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), the club patron expressed his desire to keep Tavares in Rome at all costs, especially after prevailing in the race for his signature.
I won’t sell Tavares, not even for €70 million. We have beaten off strong competition from the big clubs to sign the left-back in the summer.
Tavares started his career at Sporting but eventually earned his big breakthrough with their blood rivals Benfica. His exploits in Lisbon earned him a transfer to Arsenal in 2021, but injuries impeded his momentum in London. The full-back spent the previous two campaigns on loan at Olympique Marseille and Nottingham Forest, before joining Lazio in the summer.
