Americayya.net reports that Club América have announced the immediate departure of sporting director Diego Ramírez, who will continue his development within Grupo Ollamani on the sporting side.
Ramírez joined América several years ago, first working as sporting director with the women’s team. He later moved to the men’s set-up to assist Santiago Baños with signings and departures.
In recent days, there had been suggestions of changes in the sporting department due to differences with the coaching staff. The report says those differences were such that Ramírez wanted André Jardine removed.
However, senior figures at América, led by Emilio Azcárraga and Carlos Barcel, opposed any dismissal of the coaching staff. The report adds that Ramírez was removed from his post and reassigned to another area of the company, away from the club.
No further changes are expected for now. Even so, a mid-year move to appoint another sporting director to work alongside Santiago Baños and Héctor González Iñárritu, the director of operations, would not be a surprise.
