Colombia name World Cup squad with James Rodríguez included | OneFootball

Colombia have announced their 26-man squad for the upcoming World Cup, with captain James Rodríguez included despite a disrupted season affected by illness and limited minutes in the MLS with Minnesota United.

The 34-year-old, a former star of Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Everton, has only started twice in 15 league matches this year, but still earns his place in the national set-up as a key senior figure. He is joined by Bayern Munich winger Luis Díaz, as Colombia prepare to return to the World Cup after missing out in 2022.

Rodríguez’s season was briefly overshadowed in March when he was hospitalised after suffering severe dehydration during a match against France. While there were online rumours suggesting more serious conditions, his club quickly dismissed those claims.

Elsewhere, Crystal Palace duo Daniel Muñoz and Jefferson Lerma are included, along with experienced goalkeeper David Ospina.

Colombia will warm up with friendlies against Costa Rica and Jordan before facing Uzbekistan, DR Congo and Portugal in Group K.
