Corinthians players rallied round André in the dressing room after the teenager’s latest dismissal in the 1-0 win over Vasco on Sunday. It came in the 13th round of the Brasileiro at Neo Química Arena.

He was sent off late in the first half for a heavy challenge on Thiago Mendes in the attacking third. According to Globo.com, it was his second red card of April, the first came in the derby with Palmeiras for an obscene gesture.

Midfielder Raniele said the squad gathered to support André during a difficult spell. He stressed the group trust his quality and will help him temper his desire, noting that playing a man down weighs heavily in today’s game. He also pointed out the ball had just been lost and André was trying to press immediately.

Head coach Fernando Diniz called the dismissal unnecessary and said André must learn from it. He described the 19-year-old as talented and gentle in day-to-day work. The club had already docked him 10% of his registered salary after his previous dismissal in April.

André is available for Thursday’s Libertadores group game against Peñarol of Uruguay at 21:00. He will then miss Sunday’s meeting with Mirassol at 20:30 Brasília time in the 14th round of the Brasileiro.
