Corinthians Brabas visit English sister club, defender praises fans

The Brabas are preparing for the first FIFA Women's Club World Cup in London, England, and this Saturday (24th), they took advantage of a break to watch an Arsenal match and participate in a special meeting with the Corinthian-Casuals, a sister club and great inspiration for the creation of Corinthians in Brazil.

One of the athletes present during the visit to the English club was the experienced defender Erika, who made a point of highlighting the passion of the "brother" club's fans and the strong engagement of the local community: “It's really cool, I was with one of the fan directors, it was amazing to hear the story, how everything happened and how this was built. They don't want to expand much, they don't want to turn this into a big stadium. It's something very simple but very beautiful, all structured in their own way. The people themselves help on Saturdays to paint, to do various things. It's unbelievable.”

The defender shared conversations she had with fans who support the team and said she was impressed by how everything happens.

“I even asked the fans how they met here, because it's always cold. He told me that usually, people stay for two years and then leave, but the fans got to know each other in 2020, during the pandemic. I said: ‘No way’. And it was indeed, during the pandemic. They created a WhatsApp group, and everything started there. It's a really cool story. I think that's what we have to value, that's what we have to hold even closer to our hearts. Because they are all Corinthians fans, all a bit crazy, and we are too, I am a Corinthians fan.”

Erika also recalled her own childhood and highlighted how significant the moment was in her journey, especially being able to bring Corinthians women's football to the Corinthian-Casuals.

“This reality takes us back to when I was little, helps us understand what Corinthians is. Look at what they do for all this, who founded it, how it started, how many years ago, and how it is today. We are talking about a team that needs to take this and expand it to those who live in our country (Brazil), to those who are Corinthians fans, and say: ‘I was here, and women's football was here’. I am very happy to be part of this story, and this will be marked in my life.”

Also present at King George’s Fields, the stadium of the Corinthian-Casuals, were defender Letícia Teles, left-back Tamires, attacking midfielder Letícia Monteiro, and women's football director Íris Sesso. The group was welcomed by Fiel Londres and watched the 2-2 draw with Abbey Rangers FC, in a match valid for the Combined Counties League South, equivalent to the seventh division of English football.

At the end of the match, the Brabas were honored and received support from the English sister club for the World Cup. The team will take the field next Wednesday (28th), at 9:30 am (Brasília time), when they face Gotham FC from the United States at the Gtech Community Stadium, in the semifinals of the Women's Club World Cup.
