Corinthians goalkeeper Lelê hailed Brazil’s 1-0 win over Canada in the Fifa Series, celebrating a personal resurgence after overcoming depression.

Aline Gomes struck the only goal at Arena Pantanal in Cuiabá. Lelê then produced two crucial saves to deny Prince, preserving the lead and sealing a first Fifa Series crown for Brazil.

"It is very gratifying, I am very happy. Beyond the injury, I had a bout of depression that many people do not know about. Being here, able to do what I love most, is indescribable. The only thing I think about is going on the pitch and giving my best for the Brazil national team for as long as I can and my body allows," she told CBF TV.

She also savoured playing in front of home fans and looked ahead to 2027, when the World Cup will be staged in Brazil. "Being able to play at home, with our fans, to start getting a taste of how the World Cup will be and to finish with the Fifa Series title is hugely gratifying," Lelê added.

Lelê started for Brazil at the 2023 World Cup before a serious injury halted her international run. She tore the anterior cruciate ligament in her left knee in February 2024, missing the Olympic silver campaign at the Paris Games. After seven months out she returned for Corinthians in September 2024, then was recalled by coach Arthur Elias in November 2025 and has been first choice since.
