Corinthians midfielder hails away result, celebrates end to goal drought

On the night of last Thursday (20th), Corinthians faced Athletico-PR at Arena da Baixada in a postponed match of the second round of the Brazilian Championship and won 1-0, with a goal scored by the Argentine midfielder Rodrigo Garro. After the match, the number 8 celebrated the achievement of the result and the opportunity to score again for Timão.

Rodrigo Garro hadn't scored for Corinthians in five months. The Argentine's last goal was precisely against Athletico-PR, on November 10th, in Timão's 2-0 victory. The match was valid for the second leg of the quarter-finals of the Copa do Brasil and was played at Neo Química Arena.

The number 8 was even the standout player for Corinthians in the match, according to the statistics app Sofascore. The player scored one goal, completed 18 accurate passes out of 20 attempts (90% accuracy), three accurate long passes out of three attempts, won four duels out of five, and suffered three fouls, earning a rating of 7.9.

Still according to the platform, Garro is the leader of Timão in goal contributions in the 2026 Brasileirão, with three. The Argentine has one goal, two assists, five key passes, 87% accuracy in long passes (average of 4.3 per game), 69% efficiency in duels, seven fouls suffered, and an average of 70 minutes to participate in a goal.

Corinthians now shifts its focus to the Campeonato Paulista. Next Sunday (22nd), at 8:30 PM (Brasília time), the Alvinegro visits Portuguesa at Canindé for the quarter-finals of the state championship. In the Brazilian Championship, the club from Parque São Jorge will return to the field next Wednesday (25th), at 8 PM, to face Cruzeiro at Mineirão for the fourth round of the national competition.
