According to Cadena COPE, Valencia have asked Cristian Rivero to find a new club this summer, despite renewing him in February until 30 June 2027. The 28-year-old goalkeeper has been informed he is not in the sporting plans.
The shift comes less than half a year after Valencia looked to fill the role of homegrown third-choice. Rivero said at the time he was there to keep everyone focused and to contribute on and off the pitch, and that he was happy.
The club had also targeted a higher-level loan than Segunda RFEF for academy prospect Vicent Abril. Plans for Abril and Raúl Jiménez remain to prioritise minutes and trust next season. One route would see Raúl start for VCF Mestalla and be available as Carlos Corberán’s third keeper if required.
With Rivero now on the transfer list, the search for a goalkeeper to compete with Stole Dimitrievski continues and grows more urgent. The North Macedonian is due to start as the theoretical first choice, but must confirm that in daily training and in LaLiga from mid August.
Rivero has one year left after February’s renewal to June 2027, yet he is being asked to move on. The club would free a squad spot among those outside the plans to register potential reinforcements, mirroring the situations of Almeida, Santamaría and Raba. For Rivero, it means seeking a contract that could secure a fresh sporting and financial opportunity from July 2027.
