Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has revealed where he currently stands on his future, even as he continues to be strongly linked with the Manchester United hot seat.
Ruben Amorim is not entirely safe at United amidst the club’s poor start to the 2025/26 Premier League season.
Following the humbling 3-1 loss to Brentford, the days that followed were filled with intense speculation and uncertainty surrounding Amorim’s future at Old Trafford.
There were suggestions that United had drawn up a list of potential replacements, which included Glasner’s name. The Austrian coach has enjoyed great success in England since taking over the reins at Palace.
He led the South London outfit to FA Cup glory last season and were it not for a harsh UEFA ruling, the Eagles would be playing Europa League football this term. Glasner also masterminded a Community Shield victory over Liverpool just before the campaign kicked off.
Until last weekend, Palace were the only unbeaten side in the top flight, but their impressive 19-game run came to an end at the hands of David Moyes’ Everton.
It’s understood that Glasner is keen on taking the United job, though some reports suggest he may be holding out for the Bayern Munich position.
He has now made it clear that he’s ignoring the outside noise and is fully focused on winning as many games as possible with Palace.
Speaking at Austria’s Sporthilfe Gala, where he was awarded the Coach of the Year award, Glasner said [as quoted by The Mirror], “As I said, I try to keep it at bay, whether I’m successful or unsuccessful, partly for self-protection.”
“A few years ago, I got into the habit of living in the here and now and enjoying it.”
“It’s simply better when you don’t lose 19 games than when you don’t win 19. Then the atmosphere at the training ground in the morning is simply better; everything is easier.”
He continued, “I’m no less ambitious, no less demanding, and just as annoyed when we lose, like now.”
“Even if it was the first defeat in six months: I’m one of the worst losers in the world, and I’m still annoyed about it today.”
In any case, it appears Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the United hierarchy want to give Amorim as much time as possible to turn the situation around. In a recent interview, Ratcliffe insisted that Amorim will get up to three years to make his mark at Old Trafford.
