Callum McGregor broke down in tears at the end of the Scottish Cup final penalty shoot-out defeat to Aberdeen with that vital first penalty miss weighing heavily on his mind.
The skipper has been ridiculed by some, mainly rival supporters which is par for the course, but sadly a few Celtic supporters have felt the need to criticise our skipper.
Callum’s tears show he cares, if he laughed it off the same critics would be tearing strips off him for not caring enough, he’s quite literally stuck between a rock and a hard place.

Callum has absolutely nothing to be ashamed of. That was his first taste of defeat in a competitive cup final which proves he’s a born winner, a remarkable statistic given how many finals he has played in. Those tears show to the world that he can’t stand defeat and that is what we want and demand from a Celtic skipper.
Alongside Greg Taylor, Callum McGregor can be proud of his own personal performance yesterday amid an array of insipid showings from so many Celtic players who are usually so reliable for their consistency.

Callum McGregor said afterwards that he will now use that hurt to spur him on next season. That’s what we want to hear. Some clubs have skippers well versed in being a runner up, we have one who is a natural winner. Chin up Callum you have achieved so much, and still have a lot more to add to it over your remaining years as the Celtic captain.

Meanwhile yesterday could be the last game for Celtic for Greg Taylor. He is out of contract at the end of June so will NOT be back for pre-season training unless a new deal can be sorted. With all that uncertainty hanging over him it is notable that he was probably Celtic’s top performer at Hampden yesterday.
Hopefully there’s some positive news on a Greg Taylor this week to cheer us all up.
