Daniel Farke has been charged with misconduct after his red card at full-time of Leeds United’s 1-0 home defeat to Manchester City, and must respond by Friday six March.
The case centres on him entering the pitch to confront match officials, which is contrary to Law 12. yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk understands he is likely to begrudgingly accept the one-match ban, which would rule him out of the Norwich City FA Cup tie at Elland Road.
If he appeals and the hearing is not held before that match, he could risk missing two Premier League fixtures should the appeal be rejected.
Farke was not permitted to speak immediately after the game, though he discussed it before facing Sunderland. He said he was unhappy with added time, jogged on to ask why no extra seconds followed a yellow for time-wasting, and maintains he neither swore nor gestured, nor used threatening or abusive language, adding the red was shown before he could finish speaking.
He felt the swift red card was embarrassing, yet says he did not abuse the officials and believes footage shows assistants were surprised. He stressed respect for referees across nearly 20 years without a red, vowed not to jog on to the pitch again, and added that while he thinks it was never a red, the decision is not his, calling Peter Bankes a top referee who can misjudge a situation.
