Daniel Farke is set to appeal his red card from Leeds United’s home defeat to Manchester City, with the club seeking an FA review of referee ref cam footage.

The head coach was dismissed after the final whistle at Elland Road as he approached referee Peter Bankes. Farke maintains the card came before he had spoken to the officials, and he was filmed asking Bankes why he had been sent off. The offence cited was entering the pitch and confronting the referee after full-time, and The Mirror reports that Leeds are expected to lodge a formal appeal and are confident the footage will clear him.

Farke has since met club officials and believes the audio-video recorded by the ear-mounted camera will vindicate him. The device was attached to Bankes’s ear during the match.

Assistant manager Edmund Riemer defended Farke, saying he was disappointed by a decision he viewed as very harsh and stressing the head coach is neither over aggressive nor over reactive. He suggested any explanation would be that Farke was over emotional in entering the pitch and said the referee could have shown greater sensitivity.

Farke faces a potential touchline ban. He is still expected to be in the dugout for Tuesday’s home game against Sunderland, with the case unlikely to be resolved by then.
