Danilo will wait until after the 2026 World Cup to open talks on his Flamengo future, with his contract up in December and the club keen to extend. According to Coluna Do Fla, the defender has set post‑tournament discussions to decide his next step.
The Brazilian is weighing whether to carry on or retire, having previously mapped out an end‑of‑2026 exit, with his physical and mental condition central to the call.
“Right now my thinking is that this is my last season in football, that in December I stop playing. I am not setting that in stone. If at the end of the year I feel good mentally and physically and still have a strong bond with Flamengo, I could do one more year. But at the moment my thought is to make this season as good as possible, a World Cup year, and then stop playing. It has always been my aim to bow out at a high level, not dragging, playing little,” said Danilo, speaking to GE.
Flamengo signed Danilo in January 2025 after he left Juventus, and he has since made 47 appearances, scoring five goals and adding two assists.
One of those goals sealed Flamengo’s fourth Libertadores title against Palmeiras in 2025. He has also lifted a Brasileirão and a Carioca.
With the centre‑back available, Flamengo prepare to face Vasco at the Maracanã on Sunday 3 at 16:00 Brasília time in the 14th round of the Campeonato Brasileiro.
