Spain Under-21 head coach David Gordo has backed Luis De la Fuente’s decision to include Javi Guerra among the ‘meritorios’ training with the senior team from tomorrow, endorsing the Valencia midfielder’s rise. He believes Guerra has the talent and drive to become a long-term fixture with Spain.

Guerra is again attracting interest this summer, but Valencia have no intention of selling. According to AS, the club are not under Fair Play pressure and will refer suitors to his release clause, while Ron Gourlay has told Carlos Corberán to plan with Guerra in his squad.

The 23-year-old finished the season in prime form, scoring three in the final two league matches and providing three assists across the last seven. He has already made 129 appearances for Valencia.

Speaking at Mestalla, Gordo highlighted Guerra’s route through Spain’s youth ranks and described his talent as exceptional. He expressed confidence the midfielder will become a senior regular because of his quality and hunger.

Gordo addressed the ninth Clínic Escoles VCF at the stadium, an event attended by 500 coaches from 46 partner clubs, with the regional federation and the RFEF also involved. Valencia later circulated his remarks, and Gordo added that he values Guerra’s character as highly as his football, saying he is delighted with his involvement and hopes he will soon be a fixture.
