FLW's Sheffield Wednesday fan pundit has praised David Storch amid desire to correct Dejphon Chansiri-related issue...

For Sheffield Wednesday, the end of the Dejphon Chansiri era should not just be marked by a change in ownership, but by a visible reset of identity under David Storch.

If Storch’s proposed takeover is ratified, he and his consortium have a rare opportunity to draw a clear line between past and future — and changing the club badge feels like a tap-in for them.

Storch has explained he wants to change Sheffield Wednesday's badge, albeit keep the owl that the club is synonymous with. It's fair to say that symbolism matters in football, particularly at a club with Wednesday’s history and fractured recent past.

A refreshed crest would signal more than just cosmetic change, as it would represent a cultural shift, a clean break, and the beginning of a more stable, forward-thinking chapter at Hillsborough. But how do Sheffield Wednesday fans feel about it?

Football League World spoke to our resident Sheffield Wednesday fan pundit Patrick McKenna for his immediate reaction to the latest information. Storch has hinted that Sheffield Wednesday's badge could change soon with them hinting the old Owls badge they are big fans of.

We asked for his thoughts on this and whether he would welcome a change of the club badge? He said: "In regards to the change of the badge, this is an easy win for new owners.

"It doesn't cost a lot of money to implement and with it, it's a revenue raiser. If you have the kits with this new badge next season, then people will want to buy it.

"The fact of the matter is that this current badge and change under [Dejphon] Chansiri reminds us fans of the Chansiri era. It's associated with a vile individual who has absolutely destroyed our club.

"If we could go back to a proper owl — the original owl — which has nothing to do with the Chansiri era, that would be great. So, you know, it does just show that, if you listen to fans, there are easy wins there to get them onside.

"Whereas Chansiri just annoyed fans with the new badge and would never have thought to communicate and change it based on feedback. It does show a bit of business acumen that they have identified something like this.

"And although massive changes are needed to turn Wednesday around, you can do something like this early doors and it's certainly a positive move. And it would be welcome by all fans."

Ultimately, this is a new dawn for Sheffield Wednesday , and although there are an abundance of other priorities to sort out, moments like these should be embraced as the intent is a step in the right direction to mark that new dawn.

A badge change may seem symbolic on the surface but, in reality, it is a powerful statement of direction. It's one that helps distance the club from the turbulence of the Chansiri era and begin a new chapter in League One, where the journey has to be about returning the Owls to some level of their former greatness.

Sheffield Wednesday are a huge, historic football club. For Storch and his consortium, it is a straightforward, meaningful step that aligns with the broader need for reset and renewal and will absolutely get fans onside immediately.

Wednesday’s future should feel different, look different, and carry a sense of unity again. A new crest would be a fitting emblem of that fresh start. It's the most logical move and should be a top priority when stability is found.
