Davide Ancelotti has been appointed Lille head coach on a two-year deal, with the 36-year-old succeeding Bruno Genesio after he left the club. The appointment was confirmed on Monday.
Lille president Olivier Létang said Ancelotti fits the profile of the modern coach, praising his rigour, energy, maturity and experience, and stating the club believe he is ready to develop their sporting project.
The son of five-time Champions League winner Carlo Ancelotti, he served as his father’s assistant at Bayern Munich from 2016 to 2017 after Paul Clement’s departure. He then followed him to Napoli from 2018 to 2019, Everton from 2019 to 2021, and Real Madrid from 2021 to 2025, and also worked with the Brazil national team.
His first stint as a head coach, at Botafogo, lasted five months and returned 15 wins, 10 draws and 8 defeats, before John Textor parted company with him in December.
A polyglot who speaks Italian, French, English, German and Spanish, Ancelotti previously worked in Ligue 1 as a fitness coach at Paris Saint-Germain from 2011 to 2013 during his father’s tenure. He is credited with drawing Carlo’s attention to Kingsley Coman during that period.
