Davide Ancelotti, 36, has been appointed Lille head coach on a two-year deal, replacing Bruno Genesio. According to Le Progres, the Italian agreed terms after Genesio departed last week, and LOSC are qualified for next season’s Champions League.
This is Ancelotti’s first role leading a European club. His only previous stint as a head coach was a six-month spell at Botafogo in Brazil last year.
He built a substantial résumé as an assistant to his father, Carlo Ancelotti, at elite clubs. He began as a fitness coach at Paris SG in 2012, then moved to Real Madrid, became first assistant at Bayern Munich in 2016, and later worked at Napoli, Everton, returned to Real Madrid and joined Brazil’s national set-up.
Ancelotti inherits a side used to dominating possession and taking the initiative under Genesio and, before him, Paulo Fonseca. His ideas could align with that tradition.
He arrives in northern France aiming to make his own name after years spent in the background. He has highlighted a clear identity, high standards and hard work as matching the LOSC project.
