FC Bayern are looking closely at Eintracht Frankfurt’s Nathaniel Brown. The 22-year-old is regarded internally as an extremely exciting profile – however, in addition to many pro arguments, there are also some unanswered questions surrounding a potential transfer
As SPORT1 recently reported, initial talks have already taken place regarding the Frankfurt left-back, with Alphonso Davies‘ ongoing injury problems in particular apparently intensifying the discussion at Säbener Straße
In sporting terms, Brown would be an excellent fit for Vincent Kompany’s style of play. The Frankfurt player impresses with his enormous pace, high dynamism and great offensive drive. At 35.78 km/h, he was one of the fastest players in the league in the past Bundesliga season
He also has strong technical skills and a bold one-on-one game. 20 direct goals in 75 competitive games for Eintracht impressively underline his offensive quality
Particularly interesting for Bayern: defensively, Brown is statistically one of the strongest full-backs in Europe in the area of ground duels
Another crucial point is the situation surrounding Alphonso Davies. Although the Canadian is still one of the best left-backs in the world, he has been struggling with injuries for some time now. Various future scenarios are therefore even being discussed internally
Brown could be developed both as a competitive solution and as a potential successor
A Brown transfer would also have an impact on several other positions in the squad. Konrad Laimer and Tom Bischof would no longer have to regularly help out at left-back as emergency solutions and could be used more in midfield again
Josip Stanisic would also be able to be used more often in the center of defence
This flexibility in particular plays an enormous role under Vincent Kompany

In addition, there is another factor that is traditionally important at FC Bayern: the German international block. Brown is likely to be in Julian Nagelsmann’s World Cup squad. For years, Munich have attached great importance to having as many DFB players as possible in their own squad
Despite all the positive aspects, there are apparently also critical voices internally. Brown’s aerial duels in particular are considered to be in need of improvement. With only around 43 per cent of headers won, he is not one of the strongest full-backs in Europe in this area
His quality on the flanks is also sometimes criticized
The biggest problem, however, remains the price. Eintracht Frankfurt are said to have recently asked for up to 65 million euros – a sum that is causing discussion even within the Bayern management. The supervisory board around Uli Hoeneß is likely to take a very close look, especially if Brown is not initially planned as an undisputed regular
There is also the question of how a Brown transfer would affect the development of the club’s own young players. With Deniz Ofli and Maximilian Hennig, Bayern already have two promising left-backs from their own youth ranks
An expensive transfer could make their path into the professional team much more difficult
However, one thing is clear: Brown remains an issue at Säbener Straße – precisely because he has many qualities that fit in perfectly with modern Bayern soccer under Vincent Kompany.
