De Ligt’s late goal against Spurs helps preserve Man United’s strong Premier League record | OneFootball

Tottenham Hotspur were held to a 2-2 draw by Manchester United in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

United had a sloppy start, with Matthijs de Ligt’s poor pass leading to a Spurs corner, but the hosts could not maximise the opportunity.

That marked the only chance between the two sides in the first 15 minutes of the game.

The first serious attempt fell to Tottenham when Brennan Johnson delivered a cross into the area for Richarlison, but it could only hit the Brazilian’s shoulder.

United broke the deadlock in the 32nd minute, with the in-form Bryan Mbeumo heading the ball home from Amad Diallo’s cross.

He has now scored four goals at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium across the last five seasons, more than any other Premier League player during that time.

The second half started with no chances created from either side until goalkeeper Senne Lammens made a save to deny Cristian Romero from drawing Spurs level.

Moments later, the Belgian goalkeeper denied Joao Palhinha from giving Spurs the equaliser.

Johnson thought he had made it 1-1 after the hour mark but his effort was ruled offside.

Mathys Tel put Spurs back on level terms, becoming Spurs’ youngest player to score a Premier League goal against United since Dele Ali netted against the Red Devils in 2016.

A minute into stoppage time, the hosts completed the turnaround when Wilson Odobert’s shot deflected off Richarlison into the net.

However, United did not give up and were rewarded for their efforts as De Ligt headed home at the back post to end a fascinating clash.

The result means the Red Devils have lost just one of their last 158 Premier League games when leading at halftime.
