The German national team is now preparing for the 2026 World Cup. Manuel Neuer is part of the team and will start the tournament as number one following his retirement. And with a special boost
This is because the goalkeeper will be the most successful German footballer to travel to Herzogenaurach for the start of the World Cup preparations, where the preparations will begin before a match against Finland in Mainz on Sunday
The DFB team will then travel to North America, where they will play a test against the USA
But back to Neuer. Having recently won the German championship and now the DFB Cup last Saturday against VfB Stuttgart (3:0), the 2014 world champion now has 35 professional titles to his name. And that’s a record!

With the double this season, Neuer overtakes Toni Kroos, who has 34 titles to his name. After his time at FC Bayern, he really hit the jackpot at Real Madrid, with Kroos alone winning the Champions League six times
Neuer is also on a par with Thomas Müller, who has also won 35 titles as a professional, and Neuer could even overtake him if he wins the World Cup, which shows above all the experience that Neuer brings with him and which Julian Nagelsmann, the national coach, repeatedly emphasized when justifying his nomination
The national coach said that Neuer has „a very special aura“ that he radiates when an opposing striker runs at him. That’s exactly the kind of player the DFB needs in a tournament situation like the one at the World Cup. In addition to his experience, the keeper doesn’t lack confidence. He has also put in some very good performances again this season, for example in the Champions League at Real Madrid.
