Villarreal and Real Betis confirmed on Monday, 20 July, the loan of Diego Conde to the Seville club for the 2026/27 season. The 27-year-old goalkeeper moves in search of minutes after limited opportunities in his second year at Villarreal.
According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, the deal includes a purchase option set at 6 million euros, with Betis covering the player’s full salary. Villarreal could also receive add-ons tied to individual and team objectives.
His arrival follows Pau López’s move to FC Andorra. Conde has completed his medical and will join Manuel Pellegrini’s squad immediately to compete for a starting place in Primera División.
Conde remains under contract at Villarreal until June 2029, so the loan preserves the club’s control over his future. It also lightens their wage bill and could deliver a significant fee if the option is exercised.
A product of Atlético Madrid’s academy, he later joined Getafe, where he made his Primera debut in 2021/22. His breakthrough came at Leganés in 2023/24, driving their promotion and claiming the Segunda División Zamora trophy.
Villarreal then paid around 4 million euros for his signature. Across two seasons he made 23 official appearances, conceded 33 goals, provided one assist and received two yellow cards.
The move to Heliópolis offers a demanding platform to reassert himself as a reliable top-flight goalkeeper.
