Done Deal: Tonali to Tottenham for Italian record £99.5m fee from Newcastle | OneFootball

Multiple sources in Italy and England report Tottenham Hotspur have agreed to buy Sandro Tonali from Newcastle United for £92m plus £7.5m in add-ons, a new record for an Italian player.

The total cost of the operation according to Sky Sport Italia is going to be well over €110m plus add-ons, close to the £100m asking price that had been set by Newcastle United.

It also means Milan are going to pocket over €10m, because they were owed a 10 per cent cut of the future sale fee when giving the midfielder to the Magpies for €60.8m plus add-ons in 2023.

Sky Sport Italia, The Athletic, Sportitalia and more are all giving the same figures for the agreement, which was reached between the clubs today following intensive negotiations.

However, some of those add-ons are going to be difficult to activate, because The Athletic’s David Ornstein insists they are dependent on multiple Champions League qualifications.

That is no mean feat for a Spurs side that was on the verge of relegation from the Premier League last season.

Sportitalia maintain the rapport with coach Roberto De Zerbi was one of the key reasons Tonali was pushing for the transfer to Tottenham Hotspur.

This fee also makes the 26-year-old the most expensive Italian transfer in history at a potential €115m, and a minimum of €107m.

The final figures are calculated at a fixed fee of €107m plus up to a further €8.75m in performance-related bonuses.

Tonali has agreed a six-year contract with Spurs worth a reported €12m per season.
