The Red Devils are going through a tricky period as Amorim’s methods aren’t really delivering as expected, and it’s puzzling that he hasn’t made more use of a top young talent like Mainoo during this time.
One issue, it seems, is that Amorim is yet to show a willingness to use Mainoo and Fernandes in midfield at the same time, according to the Daily Mail.
In fairness, it’s easy to see why that might be a partnership that would struggle in Amorim’s current formation.
Someone more defensive like Casemiro or Manuel Ugarte might make more sense alongside an attacking player like Fernandes, who is probably too good to be dropped.

All in all, this perhaps points towards only one solution for Mainoo, and that’s to leave Old Trafford as soon as possible.
MUFC might feel they’d like the England international to stick around and give them depth, but he’s surely too good to keep on sitting on the bench this often.
There’ll also likely be a fair few top clubs out there who’d be more prepared to give Mainoo a key role, as the 20-year-old has previously shown tremendous potential when given a run in the United side.
This will all surely make worrying reading for United fans as it would be hugely controversial to lose a homegrown player like this if he were to go on and shine elsewhere.
Amorim may feel his system is worth defending, but he’s going to find it harder and harder to convince others of that if results and performances continue to be poor and if it even means driving a huge prospect out of the club.
