Douglas Aurélio has suffered another setback at CD Castellón, undergoing surgery on Wednesday for a meniscal injury to his left knee. The club said in a statement on Thursday that he will need a recovery period, making a return this season difficult.

The Brazilian winger ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in the same knee during training in late February 2025. He returned in November after that long lay-off.

He came back on 10 November against Burgos and scored a penalty in his second match, against Real Sociedad B. Team-mates celebrated the goal with him, aware of the effort behind his comeback.

His most recent appearance came against Las Palmas, and he has not featured since.

Aurélio signed for Castellón at the end of January 2024. He played an important part in the promotion run-in under Dick Schreuder, then featured at the start of the second half of the LaLiga Hypermotion campaign. He now faces another spell out.
