Ibrahim Hassan, technical director of the Egyptian national team, has issued a blunt warning to Mohamed Salah as the forward’s legendary Liverpool career draws to a close.

With Salah’s departure from Anfield confirmed for the summer of 2026, the race for his signature has intensified.

Speaking to On Sports (h/t Al Jazeera), Hassan expressed concern that a move to Major League Soccer (MLS) would result in Salah being forgotten by the global football community, drawing a harsh comparison to the current status of eight-time Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi, who joined Inter Miami in 2023.

“Personally, I would prefer him to stay in Europe,” Hassan said.

“I have heard about offers from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), Bayern Munich, and clubs in the Italian league.

“A move to Major League Soccer? He would be far too far out of the spotlight. You won’t remember Salah any more than I remember [Lionel] Messi now—I don’t even try to watch him.”

Should a top-tier European contract not materialise from the likes of PSG or Bayern, Hassan views the Saudi Pro League as the only acceptable alternative, given its proximity and the presence of other global icons.

“If he does not receive offers from Europe, then a move to the Saudi league would be a good option, especially with big names such as Cristiano [Ronaldo],” Hassan added.

Salah is currently sidelined with a muscle injury and is missing Egypt’s latest training camp.

In his absence, Egypt continued their World Cup preparations with a 4-0 demolition of Saudi Arabia, but now face a daunting assignment against Spain on Tuesday.
