Egypt national team director Ibrahim Hassan has warned Mohamed Salah against moving to MLS after he leaves Liverpool at the end of the season, saying it could consign him to obscurity.

"Personally, I would prefer him to stay in Europe," Hassan said. "I have heard of offers from Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich and clubs in Italy. A move to Major League Soccer would leave him too far from the spotlight." He was speaking to On Sports.

MLS commissioner Don Garber has said he would love to see Salah in the league, although he is unsure whether a team will try to sign him.

"If he does not receive offers from Europe, then a move to the Saudi league would be a good option, especially with big names such as Cristiano Ronaldo," Hassan added.

Salah, 33, has yet to decide his next step as he brings a nine-year stint at Liverpool to a close, during which he won two Premier League titles and the Champions League.

He is currently sidelined by injury and will miss Egypt's training camp for the World Cup in North America.

Egypt face Spain in a friendly in Barcelona on Tuesday, after beating Saudi Arabia 4-0 in Jeddah on Friday. The seven-time African champions are in Group G with Belgium, New Zealand and Iran for the tournament, which runs from 11 June to 19 July.
