Manchester United made a strong start to the season under Marc Skinner in both the Women’s Super League and the Champions League.

Their form has taken a downturn in recent weeks, however, with defeats to Aston Villa, Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain.

Amid concerns over United’s squad depth, the likes of Ian Wright have called on the club to make signings during the January transfer window.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Toone had special praise for two players United brought in during the summer.

Ella Toone praises influence of Jess Park and Julia Zigiotti Olme

Ella Toone believes she has built a strong on-pitch relationship with Manchester United teammates Jess Park and Julia Zigiotti Olme.

Park arrived at the club in a cross-city switch that saw Grace Clinton join Manchester City. Olme, meanwhile, arrived at the club from Bayern Munich.

Speaking about October’s Player of the Month, Park, Toone said: “I’ve really enjoyed playing alongside Jess, and I think it hasn’t taken us long to connect on the pitch. I know what type of player Jess is, and she knows what type of player I am.

“We’ve played a lot together before – we’ve trained together at England and we actually linked up really well at City’s academy as well, a long time ago. I pass the ball to Jess more than anyone in games, and I know when I give her the ball in tight areas she can get out of it, and vice versa. I feel we’re linking really well at the minute and hopefully that continues as the season goes on.”

While Park is regarded as one of the WSL’s best players this season, Olme has gone more under the radar.

Toone said: “Julia’s been massive for us so far this season; she’s been really important in what we do. She brings a lot of energy, she breaks up play, she’s really good on the ball… but there’s the work she does off the ball too, as she’s a runner.

“I hope her hard work doesn’t go unrecognised – for the players playing around her, it definitely doesn’t – as she’s been massive for us this season.”

What’s next for Manchester United and Toone?

Toone and Park are both in the England squad for their upcoming friendlies with China and Ghana.

The Red Devils went into the international break off the back of a 3-2 win over Brighton, after three consecutive losses.

United will hope to continue their return to winning ways when they face West Ham on December 7th.
