England wrapped up their World Cup preparations in emphatic fashion by thrashing Miami FC 6-0 in a behind-closed-doors training match in Florida.

Al-Ahli centre-forward Ivan Toney reportedly delivered a timely reminder of his qualities ahead of the tournament.

The fixture was staged at England’s West Palm Beach training base to give valuable minutes to players who featured little or none in Wednesday’s 3-0 victory over Costa Rica.

Rather than a traditional 90-minute contest, the game was split into two shorter periods.

Thomas Tuchel’s side won the first section 1-0 before running riot in the second to complete a 6-0 triumph.

Toney was the standout performer. The striker, whose inclusion in England’s World Cup squad sparked debate, reportedly scored a hat-trick and was a constant threat throughout.

One of his goals was described as a spectacular long-range effort, while his movement, physicality and finishing reportedly impressed coaching staff and observers alike.

Jordan Henderson, Arsenal teenager Ethan Nwaneri and Liverpool wonderkid Rio Ngumoha also found the net.

Ngumoha’s strike was said to be another stunning effort from distance, further underlining why the 17-year-old has generated so much excitement during England’s training camp.

Defender Marc Guehi and midfielder Kobbie Mainoo were among the other players to catch the eye, while England emerged from the contest without any injury concerns.

Coaches were particularly pleased with the squad’s sharpness, fitness levels and intensity as attention now turns to the tournament itself.

Several key names, including Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham, were rested after their involvement against Costa Rica. Still, Tuchel will be encouraged by the strength in depth.

England now head to Kansas City, where preparations for their World Cup campaign will continue under significant security measures.

Tuchel’s chosen team hotel, the Inn at Meadowbrook, has been transformed into a heavily protected base, complete with anti-terror concrete barriers, privacy screens and a police presence.

Armed officers will accompany the squad during trips to and from training, while access around the hotel has been tightly restricted as England chase World Cup glory in North America.
