English players and legends heap praise on Barcelona midfield duo following victory over Newcastle United | OneFootball

The recent 2-1 win over Newcastle United was a big one for FC Barcelona. Beyond just being the opening game for La Blaugrana in the UEFA Champions League this season, it was also a match against a top opponent at a very tough ground.

Still, Barça’s victory seems to have awarded them with more than just three points. Following the game, many English players and even legends decided to give their opinions on the performance, and some notable names praised the team and certain players on social media after the game.

As highlighted by Mundo Deportivo, Manchester United legend Paul Scholes shared a picture of Pedri on Instagram after the game and attached a caption that gave the Spanish midfielder some huge praise:

“My new favourite footballer.”

Similarly, Manchester City loanee Jack Grealish could not hold back his praise either for both Pedri and De Jong. During the game, he posted a picture of the match on his Instagram and applied a flattering compliment alongside it, dedicated to the two Barça maestros:

“Pedri and De Jong are a joy to watch.”

Even Anthony Gordon, a Newcastle United player who played against Barça in the recent game, could not hold back praise for the way the team handled possession and circulated the ball:

This kind of attention and praise can certainly go a long way. However, Hansi Flick and his Barcelona team need to keep their heads grounded and focus on each match as it comes and goes moving forward.
