Three weeks after losing Real Madrid’s presidential election, Enrique Riquelme has unveiled an opposition platform to Florentino Pérez in a statement circulated by his campaign team. According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, the move is framed as defending members’ rights ahead of upcoming institutional decisions.

Riquelme was defeated on seven June, a result he had anticipated, yet the backing he received has encouraged him to stay active in the club’s institutional life. One third of voting members supported his project, which now shifts into organised opposition.

His former campaign hub on Calle Rafael Salgado, by the Bernabéu, will become the platform’s headquarters. It aims to serve as a meeting point for socios and madridistas to strengthen their role, debate present and future challenges, and table proposals that defend members, the club’s identity and its values.

Riquelme plans to focus his challenge on Pérez’s proposal to sell a share of the club’s business, due to go to an extraordinary assembly then a referendum. By announcing the platform, he effectively signals an intention to run again and seek the presidency in future.

He stresses the aim is dialogue rather than confrontation, seeking a useful, rigorous and constructive conversation about Real Madrid’s present and future. He adds the initiative is compatible with upholding the club’s prestige, respecting its governing bodies and adhering to the integrity, transparency, responsibility and neutrality set out in its code of ethics.
