Ethan Ampadu says confirmation of Premier League safety was Leeds United’s defining moment, even above April’s historic 2-1 victory at Old Trafford, secured by a Noah Okafor brace and ending a league wait since 1981. Daniel Farke’s side finished 14th, eight points clear despite a final-day defeat at West Ham.
“Definitely the game against Man United. I think not just for the players playing and the staff involved but as a club as a whole, to have not won there in the league for 40-something years, I could see how much that meant to people and to hear that was the stand out moment for a lot of people around the city was amazing.” He was speaking to LUTV.
“But I think definitely that moment at the end of the season where we were all together watching the result that kept us in the Premier League. That was definitely the stand out moment for us all.”
Safety was mathematically secured with three games remaining on Sunday, May 10, when Arsenal won 1-0 at relegation-bound West Ham.
“That was our target at the start of the season, to stay in the Premier League, and obviously that was the moment where it as fully done. So it was definitely a good evening to enjoy with everyone.”
