Everton’s search for a new striker could see them exploring a potential swap between Beto and AS Roma’s Artem Dobvyk during the upcoming winter transfer window.

Both clubs, owned by The Friedkin Group, are yet to conduct direct business with each other. However, ESPN’s Matteo Moretto reports, “Beto-Dovbyk could be a working hypothesis for Roma and Everton heading into January. The Ukrainian striker's willingness remains to be seen.”

Beto, signed from Udinese in 2023, still has his admirers in Italy after scoring 22 goals in 65 appearances before arriving on Merseyside, where he has found the back of the net 17 times in 89 matches.

Meanwhile, Dobvyk scored 17 goals in 45 games in his first season at Roma after finishing as the top scorer in the 2023-24 La Liga campaign with Girona. The Ukrainian international has, however, scored just two goals in 14 appearances for the side from the Italian capital this season.

Beto, apparently, is also attracting interest from David Moyes’ former side, West Ham United. TEAMtalk’s Graeme Bailey reports, "We can, however, confirm that one player West Ham have enquired about is Everton’s Beto. But he would only be available if the Toffees were able to bring in another forward."

It is interesting that the club are open to player trading a striker, this may be an indication of limited funds this window.

I know nothing of Dobvyk, and the stats are not exciting, but a swap / loan might work without dipping into our spends.

Moyes has shown his preference for Barry starting, not so much on his merits, but more on Beto just not showing the quality we hoped for.

If Beto went to a club that actually played to his strengths (running onto the ball), he would start scoring goals.

Like he did for us last season.

Paul #3,Agreed.

IMO Beto is a better finisher than Calvert-Lewin or Barry and, although he is clumsy on the ball, I believe he unsettles defenders more than Barry; given the same chances, he would put more away.

Am I happy with either of them? Certainly not... and I hope for a better goalscorer in January, but I can't see Dobvyk being the answer to our problem.

We were linked with Dobvyk in the summer and various people were unimpressed.

I'd sooner try and snag Ferguson who's on loan at Roma and see if Moyes can revive him. He's a better fit style-wise for us.

Have Roma still got that full-back on loan from us despite never seeing Finch Farm or was that just a rumour?

Andrew (1):'I know nothing of Dobvyk, and the stats are not exciting.'

Erm, I think that you might be wrong, Andrew:

Dnipro -- 44 goals in 71 games; Girona -- 24 goals in 36 games; Roma -- 14 goals in 42 games (we would kill for a striker who could score 1 goal in 3 games).

That's 82 goals in 149 games (55.03). But as you say, 'the stats are not exciting'.

What more do you want, Andrew? He was the top scorer in La Liga in 2023-24. Numero Uno. But 'the stats are not exciting'. You also tell us, Andrew, that you 'know nothing' about Dobvyk. I followed Girona in that near Leicester year, and he was top-drawer.

So, you know nothing and you

Beto is one of the worst one-on-one finishers I have ever seen at our club. How many of them did he calamitously and pitifully miss in the final third of last season? Mind you, one bright spark on here said that he did not miss, the keeper saved it. Chuckles.
