Leeds United face an uphill task to re-sign out-of-contract goalkeeper Karl Darlow after his deal expired on Tuesday.

According to Sky Sports, Everton have shown interest as they seek depth behind Jordan Pickford and Mark Travers, Leeds have tabled a new deal and Darlow is considering his options, while Manchester United are also keen.

Like Everton, Manchester United are looking for an experienced back-up to clear first-choice Senne Lammens. The Belgian joined in a £18 million deal last year and Altay Bayindir and Andre Onana could both leave.

Darlow would be a low-cost, low-risk addition for any Premier League club seeking cover. The 35-year-old is homegrown, a full international and proven at the top level, having played 22 of Leeds’ 38 top-flight games last season.

He covered for Illan Meslier to complete Championship promotion in 2024/25, then fell behind summer signing Lucas Perri. He reclaimed the No.1 shirt earlier this year after two errors from his rival against Manchester United and Newcastle.

Leeds’ goalkeeping picture remains uncertain, with Perri the only senior option under contract. A new deal is thought to have been verbally agreed with Alex Cairns, but nothing is confirmed. Like Darlow, Meslier is now a free agent, with Arsenal interest as they might need cover for first-choice David Raya.
